Obtaining a Pistol Permit in NYC can be very daunting and frustrating.  

The process can tests your patience and there is a lot of bureaucracy to deal with.

The time frame for obtaining a handgun license in New York City can vary anywhere from 6 months to 1 year. However, this is not uncommon compared to many other jurisdictions in the United States.

REQUIREMENTS/THE APPLICATION PROCESS

• Age: 21+ years old.
• Residency: Must reside in NYC, or have a principal place of business/employment within the five boroughs.
• Character: "Good moral character," meaning the judgment and temperament to be entrusted with a weapon.
• Background: No felony convictions, "serious offense" convictions, or misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence.
• Mental Health: No record of mental illness or involuntary commitment.
• Legal Status: Must be a US citizen or legal resident.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must complete a 16-hour classroom and 2-hour live-fire firearms safety training course.

THIRD-PARTY ENTITY

It is understood that A L M is simply a third-party entity processing the license application on behalf of applicant and does not represent the NYPD in any way.   A L M has no control over who is approved or denied for a pistol permit by NYPD.  Applicants with misdemeanor convictions understand they may be denied based upon said convictions. Applicant acknowledges that license approval is not guaranteed nor has guaranteed approval been represented to the applicant in any way.  Applicant's with Felony Conviction(s), Domestic Violence and Mental Incompetence amongst other things should not apply.

PAYMENT/REFUNDS

**This fee ONLY includes the processing of the NYPD Application.  The actual NYPD application, Background Screening and Training are ALL additional.

All payments made for the processing of the NYPD Pistol Permit Application, regardless of approval or denial by the NYPD are ABSOLUTELY NON-REFUNDABLE.   This  includes and is not limited to fees paid for processing, separate NYPD Application and fingerprint fees.
